Fun with Frostbite : So, I'm out on the snowmobile marking the south road (seldom, if ever, used) to the campsite. I'm getting on and off the machine to put up these floursecent orange pieces of ribbon, and lo and behold my feet get a little bit cold. The toes on my left foot are completely numb by the time I get back to camp. So I head into the cabin where we have two heaters going, take off my shoes and stick my feet up to a heater. Ten minutes later my feet are all warm and toasty, except that one of the toes on my left foot is still numb. And instead of being all pink and colorful, it's stitting there like a hunk of raw chicken dangling off my foot. Of course I just calmly sit there until Alex is done with his wood cutting and casually ask him what he thinks of the situation when he comes into the cabin. Hell no. I yell out the window at him "Alex, come look at my toe please." As he walks into the cabin he asks me "Is it white or black?" to which I respond "It looks like a piece of raw chicken dangling off my foot." "Good", he says, "You just have a mild case of frostbite, it'll come back. Now if it were black, then it wouldn't come back." It came back, I'm looking at it now and it's all pink and colorful, more like a toe than chicken.
Pictures of Paige's Birthday and Halloween, Pictures of today's trip up to the land, A video of Alex on the Snowmobile, A video of the fire in the cabin stove that several rodents subdivided into condos, And finally, a video of Paige blowing out her birthday candles,

Update on Excursion 2006. First of all, thank you Rachel for all the work you are doing on this, I, among others, really appreciate it. The information you have for me is correct, and as far as where we go, whether it's an all-inclusive or another cruise, I trust your judgement on what will be fun. The cruise was great, mostly because of the people who were there and the relaxed "do whatever you want" atmosphere. In other words, I'm sure that whatever you come up with will be a fantastic time, and I truly have no preference.
Midterms are done. And the computer room in the basement is one step closer to being complete (all that's left is getting a door back on at the top of the stairs). I got the ventilation fan put in tonight. Had to cut a hole in the floor to bring the air down from upstairs. Man, what a pain. The saws-all had a hard time cutting through the inch of flooring up there. But it made it through and the fan is hooked to the switch, so it's only on when the lights are on down here. Now I don't have to worry about suffocating down here when the drier is on, and it won't smell so musty.............

Got this in an e-mail the other day, at school of all places (where I definitly do not get on any illegal or even questionable web sites.)

My question is : Are there really people stupid enough to fall for this kind of crap?

Truth is stranger than fiction : On the news monday morning was a piece on the robbery of a Wendy’s. They caught the thief, whose name really was : Ronald MacDonald. I can just imagine the headlines in the local newspaper :

Ronald MacDonald robs local Wendy’s.

New joke (or real story, not sure) I got in an e-mail.
New pictures from school : Cooking class, teachers and at the dance.

Hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving. I did. Went over to Shirley's house (for those of you who don't know, Shirley is Danny's mother-in-law. And for those of you really out of the loop, Danny is one of my brothers). Ate a lot of turkey, stuffing and pie. Played Pinocle. What more can you ask for? Anyways, hope you all had as nice a holiday as I did.......

Ex-President Jimmy Carter came into the Chevron last night for a caffien-free diet coke and some Funyons. He was on his way back to the airport from a book signing at the Barnes & Noble on 1100 E & 2100 So, came in for something to drink and some munchies for the flight home, and thanked me for voting for him in 1980. Well, OK, I lie. Although he was at the Barnes & Noble, and his motorcade did drive by the Chevron last night. They had the intersection shut down for about a half hour and I was outside changing the garbage when the motorcade drove past. But it was dark, the Suburban he was in had tinted (and I'm assuming bulletproof) windows, so I didn't even see him, but hey, I gotta get my brushes with fame wherever I can, eh?
Brain Cramps. It'll make those stupid little things you've said at times seem intelligent....... Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Some funny stuff I got in e-mails this week :

George W. Bush's speech writer (satire) :
Famous last pictures :
Redneck Galore :

All done, all set up, with sound and everything. As you can see from the pictures on the right, it's a little more inviting now. And the cool thing about when I'm listening to music on the computer, it permeates throughout the whole house.

Well, if you didn't notice that the site was down, then you missed the whole move. I'm writing this from the new computer room in the basement. So, now the warning message below is moot. Thanks for your patience, and I think I'll get back to putting the rest of the computer back together.

11/18/05

Update : Chances are real good that the change will be made sometime tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. I've got all the wiring done, and it's even working (note to self : if the ground for one circuit is touching the power to the other circuit...well, let's just say that it's a good thing they invented breaker switches). So unless I decide to clean the house instead (and it needs it) you can expect the site to be down for a little while. Thanks for your patience.
Attention : Sometime in the next week this site will be going down for a few hours. I've got the wiring done in the basement, and I'll be moving the whole thing down to the new computer room. Hopefully it won't take long, but I've got to get the cable down there, so you never know what kind of fun problems I'll run into. So, be patient with me, ok?

Yes! We got the windows in then cabin, now we can go up there in the winter and enjoy more than just when the sun is up. To see the pictures And if you notice some white stuff floating around in the pictures, yes it did start snowing while we were working on it. Fun stuff. Oh, yeah, almost forgot : if you want to see a funny video of Lisa and her dancing chicken, She'd never forgive me if I forgot to put that on here. (Well, it's my website and I can claim anything I want...)

11/09/05

11/09/05 : Couple of new funny videos: Also some new funny and cute pictures from e-mails :
One of my favorite lines in Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs is a quote from comedian Rich Jeni about the America song "A Horse with No Name:" : "You're in the desert. You've got nothing else to do. Name the freakin' horse!"

Ain't that the truth...Danny

And finally I just want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who send me things that end up on here, THANKS. You not only make this site easier for me to find stuff for, but you also make me laugh so many times.....

You could knock me down with a sledgehammer. Granite School District has decided to rebuild Wasatch Jr. High. In an area that has been declining in enrollment for the past 10 years or so, where one of the 4 Jr. Highs in the area is below 60% capacity (and the rest are between 70 and 90%), low enough to engulf the entire student body of Wasatch and house an entire second administration, with as many relocatable classrooms as west-side schools are routinely expected to tolerate. I'm furious, but not surprised. Who cares if Brockbank and Valley are crumbling. Who cares if west-side schools are bulging at the seams. Aaaaarrrrrghhhhh! I could go on for quite a while, but it all boils down to who has the political clout, who makes the most noise and following the path of least resistance. I'm disappointed in my district.

Watched Boston Legal tonight, interesting show. If you've never seen it, you won't get the full flavor of this story, but I found the end of it both funny and profound. Denny Crane (William Shatner) finds Alan Shore (James Spader) at the office late at night, sitting around having a drink. They get to talking about the events of the day and right at the end Denny says to Alan "Denny Crane. It's fun being me." Alan nods and Denny asks him "Is it fun being you?" Alan tells him "Yes, most of the time", and Denny says "That's what counts."

Here's hoping that all you find it fun being you. Like Alan, most of the time I do.

Went up to the land today. Alex and Danny got the door put on the cabin, now we just have to wait for the windows, and hope they come at a time we will be able to go up and put them in. I let Josh play with my older camera, he got some good pictures, and some funny ones. To see them, And of course, to see the ones I took,

10/31/05

Bunch of new pictures, some might interest you, some probably won't.
Elmo and Tigger dropped by tonight, we had a great chat. Seems that they've decided to relocate to Salt Lake City. A state representative that owns a real estate company (no, I'm not parodying Rep. Howard Mansell) got the zoning for the 100 Acre Woods changed, is leveling it and putting up a Super-Super-Super Wal-Mart®. There's already a Starbucks® where Tigger's old tree used to be. And Elmo said that Sesame Street hasn't been the same since last Thanksgiving. (See picture to the left). So, they met while Tigger was staying at the WMCA on Sesame Street, got to talking and worked their way out here to Salt Lake. Quite a story, their trek across the country, no money, no real I.D.'s, working odd jobs along the way. I'd tell you what they told me, but I promised not to give anything away, since they already got a $50,000 advance on the book. But they got to Salt Lake, liked it here so much they say they're going to say. Said the friends they met make it feel like they already have family here........

Alex sent me this picture of me and Josh at the Home Depot while I was at school. So, I printed it off to see how it looked, which meant having to send it off to a printer in the main office (which is why it printed in B&W). I bring it in to show to the Principal, Vice Principal and Dean of Students (who all were in the Principal's office), expecting to hear round of "Awww, cute", but instead they say "Surveilance picture of you abducting a kid?" There only 3 months and already that's what I get. Funny people I work with.........
The Golden Urinal....... More Comics.....
Junior High mentality at the Chevron : Not sure who cut off who, but two vans get in a game of "I'm not moving until you do" at the Chevron tonight. Brown Full-sized Ford want's to get to the air pump, but he's at the pump that the white Carrier van want's to go to. Ford won't back up to let Carrier in and Carrier won't back up to let Ford past. And the Carrier is blocking the parking lot. They both shut off thier engines and sit there. for about 5 minutes until Mike, the asisstant manager goes out to ask what the hell is going on. Still neither wants to move. So Mike comes back into the store and calls the cops. While he's in on the phone, Carrier guy decides that maybe it isn't a good idea to be there in the company van when the cops show up and finally leaves. The whole time I'm thinking, "Hmmm, reminds me of something that would happen in the lunchroom at school....."

Rossi in Wolfe's clothing : Patrick had to make a full dinner for the family for one of his classes, and I was fortunate enough to be invited. That boy can cook, mmmmmm. The dinner started with Italian Rice Balls (my favorite) and Italian Wedding Soup. Then we had bread with vinegar & oil dipping sauce and Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo. To top it all off he made a cheesecake that was fantastic, not the really heavy type that leaves you thinking "Man, that was a good tasting rock" after the first bite. I didn't see the work put into it, but according to Lisa he handled it like a pro (other than being in an unfamiliar kitchen). My hat's off to him, great job and thanks for including me in on the feast.
Well, we had the first dance concert since I took over stage crew. I'd forgotten how much fun it was doing that stuff, but despite the extra time and the fact that I was at the school for over 12 hours today, I'm glad I lucked into the job. It went really well, and once again proved that if you pict the right kids and let them use their own creativity things work out great. We had only one day to proctice for the concert, in an unfamiliar auditorium, but the sound and lighting went off (almost) without a hitch. I'm in hog heaven......

Freudian Slip # 3,657,221. Hard as it is to believe, kids minds wander during class. Today one kid raises his hand and when I call on him asks "Mr. Rossi, How do they know that Jack the Ripper was a guy and not a girl?" to which I responded "Yeah, I guess it could have been Jacqueline the Stripper." Um, uh. That's not what I meant. Really.

So, the woman who did Stage Crew at Granite Park the last few years is now the Vice-Principal Intern at Brockbank. That part is just a bit of ironic trivia, but the important part is that she is no longer at Granite Park. And that several people, who seem not to be entirely psyched about taking over the auditorium duties, got a whole ½ hour of training. In steps Steve Rossi, who ran Stage Crew at Churchill for 5 years and was involved in the same at Brockbank for the 4 years there. Well, after being concerned about stepping on some toes, and being informed by those people that I was welcome to step on their toes, I am now in charge of Stage Crew at Granite Park Middle School. Everyone was happy to hand over the keys, and I was happy to take them. Started taking applications from students and next week I start to build a crew. Another sign that this was the right move at the right time.

Was playing with the camera and some candles tonight, this one came out pretty cool (at least I think so).
And this was at the Chevron earlier tonight (well, Sat nite). We call it the 'beer cave', one of my favorite rooms in the store. In my 20's a dream of mine would have involved a nice warm parka, few good friends and getting locked in here for an evening.

Far be it for us to plan an outdoor family picture that would fall on a day it doesn't rain. Yup, we actually got almost the entire west-coast Rossi family together (short of Dad, Julia and Raffi) for a family picture. We were going to take it in Murray park, under the trees, on the grass, out in beautiful nature. No such luck, it just had to rain. Oh well, being the adaptable group we are, we just changed venues and went downtown to the Wells Fargo Building, where Jeff has an office. Actually, I think the pictures will come out pretty cool, got some nice backgrounds there. You'll see them when we get the CD with the pictures on it. Anyway, I did find out some interesting information while we were milling about. Seems there is going to be a Rossi population boom in 2006. All of my married nieces and nephew are going to have offspring in 2006 (and I'm pretty secure in saying that none of the unmarried ones are). Amy is due sometime in March, Lynda in May and Jenn (she and Scott found out just today) think she'll be due in mid-June. Now, if Amy can just hold out for an extra month or so, and if Jenn goes into labor a few weeks early, maybe we can have all 3 on the same day. I have it all planned. May 1st. Or maybe the 5th, friday is a good day to have a baby. Now I just have to get mothers & babies to go along with it. Hey Amy, think you can hold out until the 14th, then all 3 could be born on their grandmothers birthday? Or how about everyone work it out for the 17th of April. Their great-grandpa would probably love that. Ok, I've rambled on about impossibilities long enough, time to just say "Congrats to Lynda & Todd, Jeff & Amy, Jenn & Scott." Bye.
